Fresh ginger from Vietnam

We supply fresh Vietnamese ginger to importers and wholesalers. The roots are graded by weight, cleaned, dried on the surface and packed for sea freight. Every shipment is quoted against a written specification that names the size, the preparation and the packing. That way, what arrives at your port is what you agreed to.

Ginger is our second spice line after black pepper. We are building it the same way: specification first, checked before loading, one person responsible from enquiry to documents.

What we check in every lot

Fresh ginger is a living product. It must travel for weeks and still look fresh on the market. These are the points we check before a container is loaded:

  • Firm and whole. Roots are firm, not soft, shrivelled or crushed.
  • No rot or mould. No soft rot, no mould on the cut ends or the skin.
  • Clean. No visible soil, stones or other foreign matter.
  • Skin intact. Light, dry scratches are allowed. Deep cuts and bruises are not.
  • Dry surface. Washed ginger must be dried properly before packing. Wet skin rots in the container.
  • No sprouting. Roots should not have started to grow shoots.
  • Even size in each pack. Roots in one carton or bag are of the same size grade, so the pack looks the same on top and at the bottom.
  • Clean smell and taste. No strange smell.

If your market has its own grade rules, send them with the enquiry. We will write them into the specification.

Size grades

Fresh ginger is usually sold by the weight of each root, in grades such as “100 g and up” or “200 g and up”. Larger roots are worth more because there is less waste in peeling. Tell us the grade your customers buy, and we will quote it.

Washed or unwashed

  • Washed and air-dried ginger looks clean and bright. It is often preferred for supermarkets. It must be dried well, or it will rot.
  • Unwashed ginger keeps a thin layer of dry soil. It can keep longer and suits buyers who wash it at destination.

Packing and shipping

Fresh ginger is usually packed in ventilated cartons or mesh bags and shipped in a refrigerated container (reefer) at a steady, cool temperature. Air must move around the cartons, so the container is loaded with gaps for airflow. Tell us your pack size, marks and target temperature. We will confirm them in the specification.

Documents for fresh ginger

A phytosanitary certificate is needed for almost every destination, because ginger is a plant product. The usual set also includes a certificate of origin, a packing list, a commercial invoice and the bill of lading. Some markets require extra certificates or pre-shipment inspection. Tell us your destination, and we will list what is needed before the contract.

How the lot is checked before loading

  1. Samples are drawn from the lot that will ship and checked against your size grade and quality points.
  2. If your contract names SGS, Control Union or Vinacontrol, they inspect the lot as well.
  3. Packing and loading are supervised. You receive photos of the cargo, the container temperature setting and the container number before documents are released.

How to order

  1. Send your requirement: size grade, washed or unwashed, packing, volume, destination port and Incoterm. WhatsApp is fastest. We reply within one working day, Vietnam time (UTC+7).
  2. Approve a sample or photos of the current lot.
  3. Sign the contract: CIF or CFR (CNF) to your port, FOB on request. L/C at sight, or a T/T deposit with the balance against documents.
  4. Inspection and loading. You receive photos, the container number and the documents.
