What Robusta Grade 2, Screen 13 is

Grade 2, Screen 13 is the high-volume standard grade of Vietnam Robusta. More than 90% of the beans stay on a screen 13, about 5.2 mm. It is the grade that most soluble coffee makers and blenders buy by the container, month after month.

It is graded to TCVN 4193, from the Central Highlands, and comes in two preparations.

Moisture, foreign matter and defects are maximums. The screen figure is a minimum.

  • Standard (BB 5%) is the everyday trading grade. It allows 5% black and broken beans and 1% foreign matter, at 13% moisture. It is the lowest-cost way to buy sound Vietnam Robusta.
  • Clean, colour-sorted takes the same bean size through an optical sorter. Black beans drop to 0.1% and broken beans to 0.2%, with 0.1% foreign matter. It gives a clean small bean at a good price.

Who buys Grade 2

  • Soluble (instant) coffee makers, for whom yield and price matter more than bean size.
  • Blenders who use Robusta for body and crema.
  • Roasters in price-driven markets who want a clean, small bean (the clean preparation).

Standard or clean?

If you sort or process the coffee again, standard BB 5% is the better value. If the coffee goes straight to roasting, the clean preparation saves you the loss and the work of sorting. Ask for sealed samples of both, and compare the weight of defects you would remove.

Regular shipments

Grade 2 is usually bought on a programme, for example one or two containers a month. Tell us your monthly volume and shipment window. We will quote a programme and say plainly what we can commit to.

How the lot is checked

Before loading, samples from your lot are checked for moisture, screen, foreign matter and black and broken beans against your contract. If your contract names SGS, Control Union or Vinacontrol, they inspect the lot as well. You receive photos of your cargo and the container number before documents are released.

Documents

Usually a certificate of origin, a phytosanitary certificate, a fumigation certificate where required, a certificate of quality and quantity, a packing list, a commercial invoice and the bill of lading. EU buyers: EUDR due-diligence documentation — [STATUS]. Ask before the contract.
