What Robusta Screen 18 is

Robusta Screen 18 is green (unroasted) Robusta coffee from Vietnam, sorted so that more than 90% of the beans stay on a screen 18. A screen 18 has round holes of 18/64 of an inch, which is about 7.1 mm. These are large, even beans. Most buyers treat this as the benchmark export grade of Vietnam Robusta.

Our Screen 18 is Grade 1, graded to the Vietnamese national standard TCVN 4193, and grown in the Central Highlands. It comes in three preparations. The difference between them is how much cleaning and sorting the beans get after hulling.

Three preparations

G1 WP18 (wet polished)12.5%0.1%Black 0.1% · broken 0.3%Polished over 90%

All figures are maximums, except the screen and polish figures, which are minimums.

  • Standard (2%) is the trading grade. It allows up to 2% black and broken beans and 0.5% foreign matter. Roasters who blend, and soluble coffee makers, often buy on this spec.
  • Clean, colour-sorted beans are passed through an optical sorter, which removes black, discoloured and broken beans one by one. Black beans drop to 0.1% and broken beans to 0.3%. Choose this grade if your roaster sees defects in the cup or the bag.
  • Wet polished (WP) beans are also polished with water to remove the silver skin. They look brighter and more even. This preparation is often chosen for roasted whole-bean retail, where the customer sees the coffee.

Who buys Screen 18

  • Roasters who want large, even beans that roast evenly.
  • Blenders who use Robusta for body and crema in espresso blends.
  • Importers and traders who need a well-known grade that is easy to resell.

If you need a smaller and cheaper bean, look at Robusta Screen 16. For the largest beans, see Screen 19 and 20.

Why moisture matters

Green coffee above about 12.5% moisture is at risk of mould and of fading in colour on a long voyage. The standard and clean grades are all held to 12.5% at most. If your route is long or hot, ask about a GrainPro liner. It is a sealed inner bag that keeps the coffee’s moisture stable.

How the lot is checked before loading

  1. Samples are drawn from the lot that will ship.
  2. They are checked for moisture, screen size, foreign matter and black and broken beans against your contract.
  3. If your contract names SGS, Control Union or Vinacontrol, they inspect the lot and issue their own certificate.
  4. Packing and loading are supervised. You receive photos of your cargo and the container number before documents are released.

If a lot does not meet the specification, you hear about it before loading.

Documents

Usually a certificate of origin, a phytosanitary certificate, a fumigation certificate where your country requires one, a certificate of quality and quantity, a packing list, a commercial invoice and the bill of lading.

For buyers in the EU: EUDR due-diligence documentation — [STATUS]. Ask before the contract.

How to order

  1. Send your specification: preparation (standard, clean or WP), volume, packing, destination port and Incoterm. WhatsApp is fastest. We reply within one working day, Vietnam time (UTC+7).
  2. Approve a sealed sample. It is couriered against your account and becomes the reference sample in the contract. Roasters can cup it before they sign.
  3. Sign the contract: CIF or CFR (CNF) to your port, FOB on request. L/C at sight, or a T/T deposit with the balance against documents. No D/P or D/A on a first order.
  4. Inspection and loading. You receive photos, the container number and the documents.
